I found out the hard way that wintergreen makes a lousy cocktail — no matter what you do, it tastes like toothpaste. Luckily, mint makes a good one. Our friend Mary Ellen dropped by with a big, healthy spearmint plant a few days ago, and this evening we put it to good use by doctoring up a couple of plain old gin-and-tonics with muddled mint and lime.
