And what, you’re probably asking, is red pepper syrup? It’s red pepper jelly made by people who don’t quite have the canning thing down. But, syrup or jelly, we grew the red peppers ourselves, on the roof of our Manhattan apartment building.

The syrup is both hot and sweet and, combined with some soy sauce and rice wine vinegar, it makes an easy sauce for vegetables.
